Life Mein Kabhi Kabhi (part 4/7)

(Illustration of second level philosophy in Hindi Movie)

Every man must strive to find out before he dies, What is he running to? What is he running from and why?. Life Mein Kabhi Kabhi makes us think and reflect on our ideas of happiness. Life Mein Kabhi Kabhi’s message is simple: Don’t sell your soul in exchange for “happiness’. You don’t just end up with disappointment. You end up hurting yourself. This is a movie you don’t want to miss. It helps you engage in soul searching and if you’re honest with yourself, it puts you in the path towards transformation. Like Manish, Rajeev, Jai, Monica and Ishita we could have our moment of Truth.

The song “Hum Khushi Ki” encapsulates the struggle of these young people and their tryst with pseudo happiness. The message of the film is loud and clear: The search for happiness is like a mirage. In searching for happiness, we lose whatever we have. In searching for life, we move far away from life. Who or what can give us happiness? Can happiness be found by the choices we make? Would this happiness last? And most importantly, will this be real?

Questions for Discussion

1) Is Bollywood a mirror or a smokescreen? Why?

2) How do people engage with philosophy in films? Why?

3) What can we do to help people see God’s truth, beauty and goodness?
